In early September, five members of our Dining Group had dinner at MEKKI, a new, stylish Moroccan restaurant on 8th Street.
The decor is distinctively Moroccan, with classic Moroccan slippers that serve as focal points, on the wall and in a display that separates the low, intimate front area from the larger dining area toward the rear.
A standout dish is lamb tagine, richly flavored with dates and cumin. Included with the lamb shank are nuggets of potatoes and onions. All-in-all a feast that is plenty for two diners. The table shared generous bowls of carrots (khizzou) and beets (barba) that were flavored with a combination of spices that made them irresistible.
We all agreed that we looked forward to another dining experience at Mekki.
